In order to grow tea plants as close as possible to the method used for growing tea plants from seed, the cuttings are started as small as possible, with only one leaf and one node, and the spacing between the plants is increased to reduce the planting density and create thick trunks. The trunks are more than 10 times thicker than those of normal tea plants.
